Whilst I was searching for a nice lemming picture to brighten up the last post I came across this article in The Telegraph. It explains how climate change is affecting lemming populations, interestingly, because of the impact it’s having on the snow. Lemmings depend on a blanket of ‘fluffy snow’ to keep them warm (as it contains lots of air). However, warmer temperatures mean that fallen snow thaws and freezes in cycles, making a denser type of snow that is not suitable for shelter, feeding or breeding – not many options left for them then, is there?
