The Refugium Mountain Range (mountain range number 1 in fig. 1) can be found on the Brooks Peninsular on Northern Vancouver Island, British Colombia, Canada. It is so named because some of its peaks were higher than the glaciers of the last ice age, allowing the area to act as a refugium for various species. The name was adopted after the Provincial Museum’s Brooks Peninsular Expedition in 1981.They must have been some pretty significant refugia for a whole mountain range to be named after them!
