Refugium Everywhere!

When I Googled ‘refugium’, it came up with some other uses of the word which I suppose are still related to the concept of refugium discussed in this blog:

The first is this self-heating jacket called the MountainHardware Refugium Jacket with a built in battery powered heating system. The jacket keeps you warm and allows you to more easily withstand cold temperatures – a bit like the temperate glacial refugial areas!

The second type of refugium is something used in fishkeeping – an appendage to a fish tank which shares the same water supply but provides alternative conditions. For example, some refugium applications in fish tanks limit water flow in order to protect species that require a slower flow of water. This type of refugium basically provides more suitable conditions for certain species so they are able to survive in environments where they would otherwise struggle and possibly die out – sound familiar?
